2021 Update HERE...we want to know your update BEFORE the Reunion

Tom and I and Gracie (17 yo cat) & Tobie (3 yo Havanese dog) are now living in our Redwood 5th wheel (currently looking for a class a motorhome to make life simpler.) Last year we circumnavigated the country and found that we like the Pacific Northwest just fine and Spokane is one of the most beautiful, desirable cities of all that we have seen. We have now started campground hosting in Washington State Parks. We were at Fort Worden State Park in March of this year and spent the months of June and July at the Bowl and Pitcher in Riverside State Park (loved it there!!) Right now (Sept 2015) we are at Seaquest State Park near Mt. St. Helens. Tom does all the dirty work cleaning campsites while I will be working in the MSH visitors center.

We've been "full-timing" for two years. We rented our house in Spokane with the intention of doing this for a year or two, but it's taken us two years to really get the hang of it. We're just now figuring it out. We love volunteering in the state parks. It gives us purpose, people contact, exercise and a bit of a challenge. We are learning a lot about our gorgeous state and feel good about helping an agency that is in dire need of help. Plus we get to stay in glorious places free of charge! I think we've found our niche. ***happy dance*** Hope to see some of you around somewhere.

Plans are to head south (love San Diego!) for the winter, maybe spending some time volunteering in the Oregon State Parks on the way.

Whatcha been up to since Mead 1970?

I worked in Data Processing at US Bank (ONB) for 18 years. Spend a summer working for a rafting outfitter as a lunch cook and shuttle driver. That was great fun and probably the most exciting thing I've done! I went to EWU and graduated in 1986 with a BA in Psychology (college was so much easier at 32 than it was at 22!) Worked at Sacred Heart in the psych ward for a while after I graduated and wondered the whole time why I had the keys. In the late 90's I studied and became certified as a hypnotherapist. Tried that for a while and decided that, although I enjoyed the work, it just wasn't my calling.

I had discovered paper-making as an art form in 1983. I had been dabbling in that and in 1991 I decided I wanted to focus on my art. So I quit my job and started really working! Since I couldn't eat the paper I was making nor was I very good a counterfeiting, I finally broke down and started a housecleaning business which supported my passion and fed, clothed and housed me for 15 years.

In 2005 at the ripe old age of 53, I got married (for the first time!) to my best friend! Tom is retired from the Air Force and is an artist/photographer. We have a wonderful life together traveling in our RV, puttering around the house and just generally doing whatever we want. Life is good! I still make paper and do a couple of shows a year.

A Memorable Mead Moment

The Drill Team was performing at some big event at Shadle. It was so noisy in there we couldn't hear the commands and ended up running into each other and becoming this huge chaotic mess. The crowd was roaring with laughter, as were we. Mrs. Chris, on the other hand, was having a conniption fit.

Do you still hang out with any classmates?

None to really hang out with. Have connected with several folks on Facebook - Anita Endrezze, Vicki Plumb, Peggy Davis, Gloria Breeden, Randy Michaelis, Rob Renner, Ken Proctor. Also see classmates at art shows - Chris Huhta, Pam Anderson, Janie Morton, Ron Farley, Denny Horlacher. And one day I walked into US Bank in Lincoln Heights and there's little Roberta Cady sitting at the manager's desk!

I sure wish I had connected more with Laurie Opsal before she died. I did have lunch with her several years ago and she was just as beautiful as ever and very happy.

What teacher made the greatest impression on you and why?

Probably Bernie Kite. I got C's in her class and from that decided that I wasn't 'good enough' to be an artist. (Isn't it amazing what we can do to ourselves?!) Fortunately for me I came upon an art form I had never seen before. Having no basis for comparison gave me the freedom to explore and develop my skills. I've uploaded some pictures of what I'm doing now.

What have you always wanted to do that you haven't done yet?

Get organized once and for all! Hah! Like that will ever happen!

But really my life right now is the one I've always wanted. And it just keeps getting better!

What would we be surprised to know about you?

I worked briefly (very briefly!) as a telephone psychic. I was too honest and people hung up on me.

This is a lamp made from hickory bark paper, twigs, Dogwood leaves and lichen. It's called 'Elfin Song.'
